Carmen Luisa Letelier and the digitization of chilean academic music

After years of seeing students unsuccessfully request Chilean sheet music, Carmen Luisa Letelier, recipient of the 2010 National Musical Arts Award, and musicologist Luis Merino decided to salvage part of Chile’s musical heritage.

Their efforts led to the recovery of pieces by renowned Chilean composers of academic  music such as Isidora Zegers, Enrique Soro, Carlos Isamitt, and Federico Heinlein.

Apart from tracking down and digitizing sheet music, the academics invited interpreters such as soprano Carolina Muñoz, mezzosoprano Ana Navarro, and tenor Francisco Huerta to make voice and piano recordings to complement the information collected.

These audio recordings can be downloaded from the website of the Instituto de Chile: www.institutodechile.cl.
